Klezmer Night in Kazimierz district

25.02.2010, 08:59
Kazimierz is a historical district of Kraków, best known for being home to a Jewish community from the 14th century until the Second World War. But Jewish tradition is still alive here, thanks to the Center for Jewish Culture and the world-famous Jewish Culture Festival. Local pubs and restaurant try to refer to Jewish culture as well, for example by organizing special concerts. This week, you will have an opportunity to take part in one of them. The concerts promoting new album of homegrown pioneers of klezmer music – the Kroke group – will take place in well-known pub Alchemia. Kroke is something more than just a klezmer band. That trio plays original compositions that employ authentic ornamentation, with modes and scales from both Klezmer and Sephardic music resulting in a sound both contemporary and Jewish.

If you are interested in Jewish culture, you just have to be there!
