The educational offer of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow consists of degree - (Bachelor, Master and Doctoral) and non degree (Postgraduate Studies, student and postgraduate artistic internships as well as Open Studies) courses in the areas of art, design and conservation (a detailed description of the admission requirements has been published in our Admission's Guide). Founded in 1818, our institution is the oldest artistic university in Poland and plays a major role in Polish and international artistic life. It develops its structure and curricula continually offering new learning opportunities to overseas students.
Our educational philosophy is based on our long experience and it adapts to the needs of the student in the modern world. The methods of teaching are student-oriented and include artistic/design tasks which require developing comprehensive skills of the student in terms of intellectual, emotional and practical abilities. Artistic experience is transferred through long-term practice in Master studios which ensures good rapport between Professors and their disciples, at the same time allowing students to enrich their artistic awareness and acquire the necessary skills for their independent and responsible artistic/design activity.
This educational approach ensures high quality learning outcomes and allows the student to arrange his/her individual programme of study. In fact, the flexibility of curricula has become a significant feature of our philosophy of education which enables the student to focus on his/her individual artistic development and to obtain general competences as a prospective artist/designer.
Apart from high quality teaching standards, reasonable prices and diplomas recognized across the EU as well as all over the world (we use the European Credit Transfer System) contribute to a still growing number of international students who are interested in studying at our Academy. All our teaching staff serve the needs of the students who are considered to be the most important element of the process of education.

The beginnings of organised education of teachers go back to the second half of the 19th century. It was at that time that the first teacher training schools were created in Krakow, separately for men and women. In the1930s, an interwar years period, Henryk Rowid’s Pedagogium took on the responsibility of educating teachers.
In 1946 Pedagogical High School in Krakow was established and after undergoing many transformations it now stands as the Pedagogical University of Krakow. Approximately 20.000 full-time and extramural students follow a three-level study system at five faculties. The University also offers a postgraduate programme. For many years the University has been the best school in the field of education in Poland successfully fulfilling its educational objectives. There has always been a lot of emphasis put on modern and future-oriented education of teachers. Nowadays students are being prepared to teach more than one subject at school after graduation and also they are given proper educational tools to organize school life. The University effectively adjusts to the new challenges of integrated Europe, especially by creating an open and informative society preparing highly qualified teachers with a multi-specialised profile. Students can complete part of their studies in other Polish universities and abroad.
From out of twenty universities in Krakow, Pedagogical University is ranked as the fifth in terms of its number of students. Every tenth student in Krakow is a student of Pedagogical University.
The University conducts scientific research from the field of pedagogy and other disciplines. Students can use well-equipped laboratories and lecture rooms. High standard facilities fully satisfy students’ practical needs, the rest they can get from a rich heritage of cultural Krakow.
Studying architecture in Kraków means something more than just a systematic acquisition of knowledge. In the first place, it is a continuous process of asking: “what is Architecture” and unceasing attempts to answer this question. If Architecture is the “art of shaping space”, as one of the definitions says, Kraków favours such understanding of the Art of Architecture. This is because studying in Kraków means everyday contact with different kinds of space. The academic space is built by the unique atmosphere of the Faculty of Architecture created by an international community of students and professors. The space of the place is created by the special location of the Faculty in the centre of the old Kraków – one of the most renowned European towns with a multicultural tradition and a rich history, which is reflected by its architectural heritage and an abundance of the events of today. As the cultural capital of Poland included in the UNESCO list of World Cultural Heritage, Kraków is a suitable place for reflections on the role of material heritage and contemporary possibilities of its development and transformations. The central location of Kraków in Central Europe facilitates the confrontation of local events with the European cultural context. It is because studying in Kraków means studying in the heart of the multicultural Central European space. The geographic location of the town guarantees the possibility of intensive exchange of architectural and other ideas and impressions available in Prague, Berlin, Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest, Lvov or Vilnius. If we agree with the belief that Architecture is something unusual and being an architect means not only practicing an occupation, but also the way of life and if we agree that the aim of the architect’s work is to create a new cultural heritage and protect the old one, then we must also admit that studying architecture in Kraków seems the best way to adopt such an attitude and achieve this aim. We invite you to study in Kraków – a place where tradition meets modernity.
Studying in Krakow gives you an excellent opportunity to get to know the city which, undoubtedly, is a visiting-card of Poland. Krakow, with its thousand years of history confirmed with monuments of architecture, culture and art, has one hundred thousand students at universities and academic schools which provide the possibility of making connections in almost every field and in many languages. This combination of history and youth makes the medieval city a city that never sleeps. It makes everyone feel at home here. Krakow is also a mixture of many cultures (German, Italian, Austrian, Jewish) which have been influencing the city for centuries. This is also the centre of Jewish culture, the seat of numerous churches and Christian monasteries, the city of Pope John Paul II, the city of world-famous poets and writers. Around Krakow one can find tourist attractions from the world’s heritage list, above all a unique medieval salt mine in Wieliczka and a dramatic sign of the newest history-a Nazi concentration camp in Auschwitz.
The discussion on tourism in Krakow has an eighty-year-old history and the studies at the Faculty of Tourism and Recreation at the University School of Physical Education have been conducted for thirty five years. Owing to that the university has gathered a group of specialists majored not only in the field of tourism, cultural variety, law and economy but also animation and tourists’ needs. The university offers specialisations in tourism organisation, hotel trade, active tourism and psychosomatic rejuvenation. Studies combine university lectures and practical sessions often held outside the university building. The mountainous region in which Krakow is located gives everyone an opportunity to practice skiing, hiking and spending leisure time in an active way e.g. climbing in Jurassic valleys.
Although agriculture has played a crucial role in human civilisation development for 10 000 years, it was first recognised as a science in the second half of the 19th century. Since that time agricultural sciences have greatly expanded to cover crop and livestock production systems, horticulture, forestry. Nowadays they comprise a wide variety of fields, such as environmental engineering, agricultural engineering, food technology or biotechnology. The world is changing, the world population is growing, so innovative methods of farming and crop protection are necessary and should at the same time be safe for the environment. Agriculture of the 21st century requires highly qualified specialists fully aware of the concept of sustainability, able to run and manage farms producing safe food for the ever growing human population under various environmental conditions. Dynamic development of biotechnology has allowed for the production of GMO plants, which still raise controversy so continuous research in this field is still necessary. Specialists in agribusiness and sociology but also experts at rural infrastructure, land surveying or area planning play an important role in rural areas, transformations including their multifunctional development and landownership changes.
Food processing, preservation and conservation technologies, creating healthy or special foods, are rapidly expanding and increasingly important disciplines with vast future potential. In view of the ever increasing human mobility, food safety and quality are of key importance, so experts who will develop new methods of their assessment and assurance will always be required. Monitoring, protection and proper utilisation of forests, which play a key role in the environment are also fields of utmost importance for the environment, especially in view of climatic changes.
Agricultural sciences are present in every sphere of human life since they are connected with basic human needs: nutrition and safe environment. They are an important link in the chain of sustainability. There is a lot to be done in all fields, so it is worth studying these problems.
